More About the Winelands Region of the Western Cape in South Africa
The production of wine has shaped the development of the Western Cape Winelands region for over 300 years and is currently the largest wine producing region in South Africa.

The Western Cape Winelands are divided into various regions each with its own wine routes. The Constantia Valley wine region is situated in mountainous surroundings, and boasts some of the oldest wine estates and homesteads along with several award winning wines and restaurants. The Stellenbosch Wine region is one the best known in the Western Cape and is home to a variety of cellars producing some of the country's most acclaimed wines. The Franschhoek Valley wine region was settled over 300-years ago by the French Huguenots. Set against the backdrop of the Franschhoek and Drakenstein mountains, this quaint village has over 30 wine farms.

The largest wine route in Western Cape Winelands is that of Stellenbosch which comprises several co-operatives and many farms which are hundreds of years old. Franchhoek's wine farms are well known for their names which reflect their French Huguenot ancestry.
