Northcliff in the Johannesburg Region of Gauteng, South Africa
Northcliff is situated in the Johannesburg region of the Gauteng province in South Africa. Northcliff is a mostly upper-income residential area, located on Northcliff Ridge which overlooks the Central Business District of Johannesburg on one side, and the northern suburbs on the other. Northcliff borders next to Fairlands, Gauteng. Cresta Shopping Centre, one of the largest malls in Johannesburg, is located on the border of Northcliff and Cresta.

One of Johannesburg’s older upmarket suburbs, leafy Northcliff, lies north west of the city’s CBD. Many of Northcliff’s large homes lie on steep inclines offering superb views. Northcliff’s tower may no longer be ‘safe’ for night time rendezvous, for which it was once extremely popular, but the ridge, made up predominantly of hard smooth quartzite, offers a number of natural climbs for avid rock climbing fans. The routes are relatively short and the view from the top of Northcliff ridge excellent - the whole of the northern suburbs lie exposed - and on a clear day, one can see as far as Sandton and beyond.
